Christmas celebrations in office!

in When was the last time you saw a bunch of people enter into a four walled space carrying enough energy to go from zero to high pitch sound in no time. It was one of a kind for me. Observe this, the time of mine in the morning is spent in gloomy state with mind absolutely white as blank paper. Thoughts of what activity should i get involved with, lurking within void brain and right from no where you hear 'jingle bell..jingle bell' rise from the voice boxes of few but enthusiastic people and you pop up your head to know the source just to find dear Santa wishing people and giving chocolates (50 paise cadbury eclairs....i thought Santa is known to give better gifts)..nonetheless, a chocolate to suffice the hunger momentarily. This rather bizzarely sounding event took place sometime around 13:00 hrs. The celebration was continued in amphitheatre, which was around 15 hrs. Saw quite a gathering in the so called ampitheatre of ours. Had few rounds of games and the best part..CAKE CUTTING..altogether a fine ending with few guys taking a stride forward with dancing.

Not a bad thing at all. I wish they would have had something similar for the diwali.

Hi!

Its been long and as i see on the left menu, the last time i made an entry was far back in august. Hmm, been occupied for quite long so didn't find enough time to spend here. Work had been than source of occupancy. Its been tough work so far and finally had a demonstration of our work after integration.

There were errors thrown in my segment and i have t sit and solve those and that can only happen on monday when the slog-routine begins. Its been fun at different times when you sit and solve problems and at the end you see the solved problem in the form of desired output. But wait....aren't there more to catch. hmm, the cycle continues. I've been enjoying the worj at night wheni feel i've grown in intellect and find patience absorb me and provide me the required attitude to read stuff and think and solve them. Well, its some kinda inner self awakening and you find solace during that time.

Had a small party thing after the client has left the place and we were told that things had gone good and client seems to be happy about the work. Well that calls fora treat and yup..we were treated with 'chat' (an indian snack) and later with beverages (im talking of tea/coffee). Good time..eh. Await a lunch/dinner someday from the circle and certainly that is on the cards soon.

thats all that happened today coupled with anxious moments which i forgot to mention.

see ya.

Chorry for the delay!

Chorry for the delay in posting the images. Thought would get back home and post it but was occupied with work.

This is 'Mrigya' in action:
Mrigya worked on fusion. The classical and the rock fusion was mesmerizing. It was good to hear them. Further, got to know many indian bands.

All in a day!

The trip to another center of the company's office wasn't the daily smooth journey that i usually have owing to the ready-travel-service available for its corporate citizen. Well, its the bus of course! you think the company will arrange a cab for me??? How grateful i would be. yeah think that gratefulness has to wait, if ever it has to happen!

Picture this- Crowded bus, an individual with a backpack, finding...correction STRUGGLING to find a place to stand where harmony can prevail for as long as it can. My toilsome journey had come to and end before i had to catch another bus to reach the local train station (I decided to take the train against the choice of taking a cab. I was told the train takes shorter time). Having had the "FUN FILLED" journey in the bus, decided to avert the transport facility for the time being (never travel in the bus in the morning unless circumstance leaves you with no other choice as it has happened today!). Rickshaw was a better option of course a formidable one for a guy like me at the end of the month! Nonetheless, with respect to personal comfort no problem at all but the traffic was PAAATHETIC at begumpet region. The rickshaw guy exhibited his maneuvering skills and man oh man these guys should be competing in Bike racing or something! It took a while before we got out of traffic and he got me to station. It costed me 30 odd bucks. Traffic is a temperament killer!

10:20 ki local train!
Time's running out! what? oh yes i forgot to mention i had to get back to my original working office after my work is done here and i had to get back to the mayfair bus stop where i catch the 'company bus' to head to my office. Lots of buses in life..lol!

Anyway! it was the first time i had traveled my hyderabad local train (of course the need never called me to render the purpose!)Got my ticket of 4 bucks and had to wait for 20 mins looking at people around and sometimes the sky! and finally there it come..the lifeline. The train was nearly empty with maybe 2-3 people in the car as i can remember against what i had expected. The travel was a pleasant one and it took mere 20 mins to reach Hi-tech city. Quite fast man. I got down at my destination but it wasn't over yet.

I had to take a rickshaw to this center of the company. But this time its a packed rickshaw with 2 girls!!! with one guy next to them(what???. wish could have exchanged places..hee hee)and i with the automan...wait there was another man on his other side. The ride as usual ...BUMPY. There was a juncture where he turned sharp and i thought the vehicle is gonna overturn. Lucky! These skills are more than admirable. I didn't know which company the people behind were working for.never even bothered also until i we all got down at the same place!!!

I finished of my work and met my colleague who is often shuttled by his superiors between original office and this office. I was aghast when i looked at the time. I had to travel back and catch my 'company bus' and there was a clear 1hour drive between the two points by local bus and over that imagined the traffic. Well! will i ever reach?

Got the bus after the rickshaw guy told me i'll have to pay INR 80 to take me to station!!! I said F*** OFF under my breath, got out of the rick and strode to the bus stop which in the process of chaos hadn't noticed.

I reached the company bus stop just in time and had a peaceful sleep during the travel.

DESTINATION REACHED. WORK DONE. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.

Good Journalism! what is it?

I was watching the 'Ramnath Goenka memorial debate' on sunday and the topic for the debate was 'Is Good journalism bad business'? The panel consisted of distinguished editors of leading newspapers in India namely The Hindu, The Indian Express, The Times of India, The Hindustan Times. Further The debate hosts were Rajdeep Sardesai(CNN-IBN) and Barkha Dutt(NDTV 24X7). The audience consisted of politicians, writers, news anchors. U can watch the entire episode here:
http://www.ndtv.com/convergence/ndtv/videos.aspx?id=15435&slug=Is+good+journalism+bad+business%3f

This topic has long been my wish to be discussed publicly and finally it has been put through. On a larger scale my question still remains as to what is the role of media in shaping the society. The society craves for information and why not its the age of 'Information' Technology!!! But does it comes at a cost and if yes at what? Does media, the context particular to the indian media, has to be glittery and glamorous as the Bollywood which looks like has lost the definition of movies and entirely rely on stupid and bizarre formulae to woo the general public. One of the questions rightly raised was 'Should TRP be a factor to decide whether a news channel is a favourite among the mass'. Lets face this, we are still a growing nation where thoughts and views change and its quite an arduous task to maintain a happy-everybody scenario. Now, shekhar gupta of the indian express said "you don't have to write for your mother because your mother will anyway like what you write instead try writing for your landlord". This is where you start writing for others and why not 'they' form the public and hence the market which decides the survival but is masala REALLY needed for a news considering the fact that we indians like Masala's anyway(you just can't eat pav bhaji with no masala in bhaji). A news media, be it print or TV, is meant to decipher information to the public and make them understand(if needed) the impact of it in their lives and the nation as a whole. Alright, you can cover the ash-abhi wedding or bipasha's kissing with christiano but does these supersede the other news related to the country? and moreover does it require a whole day broadcasting? Dont they find anything else. I used to watch CNN (i dont have that channel now here) and let me put it straight it far exceeds the quality in news and presentations with right amount. Well, people might argue thats its boring and as Mr.Ram of 'The Hindu' said "its an open world". No wonder why 'The Times of India' has become a good 'masala' newspaper. Its got everything one needs. National news, international (though more towards glam side), sport and exclusive supplement for page 3 lovers. Nonetheless, 'The Times of India' still remains my most hated newspaper but have to compromise when there is no other. The arguement can go on with each side putting across points in their favour but largely it remains that journalism is nascent and has a long way to go. The Honorable President of India, Dr. A. P. J. Kalam asked rightly the question 'Can Indian media be a part of Nation's development process'?

My B'day in the office!

yeah yeah! it was my b'day yesterday though the jubilation shown in the subject does not match with the time of writing this journal. Nonetheless. it was a funtoo time.

I had calls right from morning and maintaining through out the day. Further, i just hoped not many would know it in the first place in the office. I had imagined to silently slip by of any such activity that may render in losing my money (what do u say of a person who goes bankrupt 10 days from the next salary)and may i add the b'day bumps which i would have possibly received if it wasn't for the professional environment of the office. But there was an interesting development sometime later in the afternoon.

Coincidently, i should say (from my side), it was the b'day of the delivery manager of our unit. So, the team had arranged for the celebrations of his b'day (and not mine). Just before entering into the conference hall, a spark ignited in the brain of one of colleagues and certain activity in his mind brought to light it was my b'day too! and can anyone stop as to what happened next. Inspite of my denials of not letting my b'day out, he went on to share it with everybody. I was standing in one of the corners when everyone turned their head towards me. It felt as if a lone boy caught up with somekind of mischief rendered by him and everyone walking towards to hold him responsible (though they would never visualize that!!!). There was the other side though,i had to pierce through a small crowd with everyone extending their hands for wishes and that certainly was the incredible part. Now, the visualization turned to the one where an 'oscar' winning star is walking for his prize just to only be gulped down into the growling biological storage. yup the stomach and in case wondering what that is... the 50cmsX30 cms rectangular cream topped spongy delight called 'the cake'. The manager shook hands and congratulated me on marking yet another mile on the road to 'maturity' and undeniably a growing adult!!! The cake had his name and i was a little hesitant simply for the fact that the cake belonged to him and he had the entire right of cutting the cake and not me. The staff had organised everything for him with any but a slightest hint that another creature of this semi-heavan world who shared the same b'day. HE was kind enough to let me have the time to cut and the time ended up both of us cutting together. WHAT A TIME! it took me completely by surprise as nothing of this sort was expected by me. It was great! The 'award ceremony' ended with evryone having the cake and wafers all together and disappearing!!!.

There were my other friends in the unit who were equally angry that i never mentioned my b'day to 'em. One going to say 'U cannot share ur happiness with others'. Now, that did prick me a little because i never had in mind to enlarge a picture of b'day and not that i never wanted to share happiness. Nonetheless, i apologized in a way possible, maybe because i thought it was wrong not to have mentioned it to them.

It was a great day after all and more so when people whom u dont know end up wishing you and there you go....add another acquaintance who knows may go on to be a best friend.

On a wonderful day,

Shishir.nc

The chronicles of narnia: The Lion, the witch and the wadrobe

Watched this movie for the second time yesterday. The first time in the theatre and now on 'star movies'. A movie (of course for children....its far better than watching the so called 'mature' hindi movies) having the sense of an 'interesting' continuity of story and further adding a new dimension to 'story-telling' (has to be story-seeing).

On to the story: Four kids (Peter, susan, Edmond and lucy) are sent away from their home which has become the tagret during a war. Thier mother sends them to a safer place where a professor is to be taking care of them. The discovery of the world is done by Lucy first who while hiding (during the game of hide-n-seek) enters a secret wadbrobe only to find this world at the other end.
Later on others too find it but this time trying to hide from the professor (why? watch it). Now they enter this world called 'narnia' which is ruled by a wicked witch (are witches to be other way...yes yes there are good ones in harry potter) who holds narnia under winter. A prophecy has been lingering around among the habitants of this beautiful world that '2 sons of adam and 2 daughters of eve' world restore justice and peace.

A brilliant film keeping the liveliness consistent throught out the duration of the movie. Very well crafted movie. the battle scene is to be the best part of the movie with good level of animation (because its made for kids so....cant be that violent as in 300 or LOTR). It capsizes the very essence of the animal kingdom, the beauty of the seasons (which has been paid very attention adding to a fantastic background). None the less a good movie to watch.

Kangaroos make it a Hat-trick!

Hat-trick! thats what they have done. Clinched the world cup for the 3rd consecutive time and made a record, beating the Windies set long back when they won twice consecutively in the year 1975 and 1979. A team certainly destined to take it away the trophy and havn't they done that!
The team from past years have been setting some exceptional benchmarks and it looks like the gap between them and the others is widening. When recalled, during any important match, the team that won the toss and decided to bat first, thinking they could pressurize the aussies, have been bowled out for within 175 odd runs and when aussies have been put to bat first, they have posted a score of over 300 runs. what does it take to beat a team like this?

It looks like an invincible team. A team guided by an energetic captain, a team whose goal remains to 'be winning'. The committment and attitude renderered proves that this team would be be at the top for long and it will take a lot more than 'imagination @ work' to 'get down the kangaroos'.

Oracle on a shopping spree!

Wow!

After quite a long time oracle CEO, Larry Ellison is back with his shopping bag. This time its 'Hyperion', a leader in performance management softwares. Oracle has been 'shopping' for some time now and past two years it has been shopping heavily, with Peoplesoft @ around USD 10 billion and seibel for around USD 5 billion and many more in its 'oracle bag'. It has spent over USD 20 billion in this craze for acquiring firms and establishing their brand across various software segments. They've got PeopleSoft HR, seibel CRM, i-flex india and many more.

Just wonder would larry ever stop his shopping spree. Maybe yes, when he's got MICROSOFT in his kitty and go on to establish oracle as the No.1 Software company in the world.

Idle in office!

Its was 9:15 and into my office, occupied my workstation. The problem which was lingering for past two days...of what? The server being down, the database down....was hoping would be rectified today so that i could complete my work. Now this is an example of 'hoping against hope'. None in our circle could possibly do anything because its not within their 'circle'. The DBA did sort the matter out yesterday and as a result the server was UP and RUNNING but won't u ask for how long? somewhere for 20 mins. None the less, im a free bird right now with my work 'hung' and i chose to blog (which according to the author of this blog, is a productive work). Im idle now (and god knows for how long) and minutes back i was reading blog posts of an old senior from my college. Had two cups of tea till now (and counting....) and nothing productive to do after this..... :-(

Genie..where the hell are you?

The shooting at NASA and Virginia Tech university

What was running through his mind? The killing at no sane level is justifiable. It's such a terrible crime. He certainly has made the world weep. Schools, colleges, universities are considered to be some of the safest places on earth. The symbols of intellect, places where creativity breeds, where some of the best minds of the world come out to go on and make things, get ideas for better human living. The incident has proved that even these symbols of educational power are no longer safe.

So, what drove him to a point of executing such a horrendous crime? As he answered in his recorded tape prior to shaping his intentions, he could not bear the 'extra' standard of living by some, could not bear people who craved for more materials for their 'already posh lives'. He was described by some as a loner who hardly mingled with people. But such hatred to go on and kill 32 innocent lives... not at all pardonable. Cho's family has issued an apology letter and as stated in that 'he has made the world weep'. certainly he has.

NASA: One of the most powerful organisations on the planet. Organisation pertaining to having the best minds on earth, advanced technologies, where i guess almost everyday innovations are materialised, tested and deployed to understand the universe in itself. Now, in such a place we have a shooting incidence.......what can be said. I guess no place in this world is safe anymore.

The match!

Heyiieee!
An update of past three days.

Remember the cricket thing going on in our circle and 5 teams from our unit being in the tournament. (dont remember...check for my previous post) Well! i was into one of the teams.. the name of our team -> Fusion maniacs..he he nice name.

It was saturday and the team turned up at the venue for the first match. The cricket ground was inside a club nearby the place where i stay. The ground was smaller than expected. We were expecting our opponent to be there so that we could start off the match (coz it was time) but the team didn't turn up so ended up winning without any effort. There was another team which was supposed to play instead they too ended up winning the same way as we did. The organizers (that's the HR guys) decided to have a friendly match between the two teams and guess what...WE WON IT! anyway that was a friendly one. Since we 'qualified' for the next round we had to play other qualified teams the following day.

Sunday, 11:00 IST

This time our opponent was ready. If we win this match we move on to the next else out of the tournament. Oh! did i mention that it was a KNOCK OUT tournament. We won this match with still 3 overs to go. Thanks to fantastic batting. The next match was immediate after 45 mins or so. just 45 mins break! and that too have to play under the hot sun...fuuurrr! Anyway the match got underway but this time we lost but by a whisker. The opponent team won the match with 2 more balls to go from the last over.

The play was good and interesting barring the heat of the summer.

Indian Teams' World Cup Debacle!

Debacle! It almost has sparked a crisis back home just letting everyone know the standards of sport prefessionlism shown by boys of the 'richest' cricketing body in the world and who knows perhaps the highest paid cricketers in the world! The amount of hype created and the expectation levels, i think, far exceeded the performance that they have rendered. Remember, a lion is lion only in his Den. Yes, the team did win the series back home before leaving for world cup venue but lets face this. The india team has a poor win percentage abroad. The fact that indian team was ranked 8 before the start of the world cup shows the extent of the vision of becoming the 'top team' in the world materialised.

I'm a cricket fan. yes and would like to see india get into a winning habit. But sometimes being optimistic is different and being realistic is different. The realistic reference is of course the benchmark set by Australia, Sri Lanka, new Zealand etc. Hope and just hope is what i have..

presenting Part 2....

Hi!

Its been a long time..eh? yup its march. Its going well at my end. In continuation to part one, i've know quite a number of people and mode of knowing them has been cricket. They call me for few games and i go and play with them. It's fantastic to get down for playing after a prolonged period and guess what? end up with an aching arm and body! Its still not much because i see most of them with THEIR pals and they dont TALK to rest of them.....much. The only enthusiastic person in the entire unit i must say, is our unit HR (guess HR's have to do that...strictly i HATE the HR profession but not the people as such....anybody could change my thoughts in this regard..feel free to contact me). Maybe, i too am not pushing at my end to get on to friends but then i used to think of those training days when i made friends with ease...and that too i didn't expect it at all....what may concern!) but after being into the circle its looks such difficult thing that i dont find anyone with whom i could talk to so freely as before...no wonder why people says software guys are BORING! i go for food alone....maybe one thing too...with my facial look i guess people dont want to approach me..(i have a pleasant face but often shows a -LOST- look as if lost in thought! but doesn't happen actually). I stay in touch thro' the 'in house messenger' we have but then most of 'em (old friends) are into their work so u see its not that on a daily basis i get connected to them personally.

Its cool when it should be and otherwise when it shouldn't. I want to do things paralelly (may be later i won't be) trying to be good in things that i like to do. Trying my best to give time for everything and everybody. One of my fundas off late has been 'to spend time with people'. Once i get back home, i spend time with my room mates. After which, i give time to myself (yup i sit alone and listen to english/sometimes hindi radio station)...music musicccc....i'm addicted to that..looks like that. I just wish i get my music collection into some kinda e-gadget. i'm waiting................................

Second post in a day!

Well well well! what am i doing now. Nothing much...was going thro' john grisham's 'innocent man' in the office! Again in this, john has his way of streching things way too much..(he had a similar approach in 'time to kill').i mean you don't have to talk about ron williamsons' baseball career again and again. he's inducted, he's dropped, he's inducted again, again dropped..its certainly not worth the thing. I just wish it could be..of all the things he describes has some connection at the end. Let me go thro' and see what he has to say!

i've been going thro' ayn rands' 'Fountainhead' as well!. A good book i must say (well everybody says that!)as of now.. i'm in chapter 3...hee hee a slow reader i am. I shall put forward my views on this too.

Office is abuzz with the cricket fever here (not the world cup 2007 approaching) but the 5ive teams that are participating from our circle for the company-level cricket match (if i can call that). It should be put as 'inter-circle cricket championship' ..err...should be better i know! Good to see the enthu here. All the best to all the 5ive teams!

chao...happy reading!

The Office around......part one

I guess none would want to talk anything about their workplaces unless and otherwise if its seemingly good. What i'm about to write is more to people around and outside the work space.

The days are going fine, not that i don't encounter obstacles which time and again test my patience levels but these are few. One of the things i believe in(which i don't know how many would agree but i would want to know..so plez drop a comment!) is that the place around you is beautiful and 'living' because of people. In other words, people make your surrounding 'fun' or 'freaky'.Further, the warmth they share when they talk, the occasional PJ's they crack (i try again to stay away coz i've had enough) etc..i found it, initially, difficult to get connected to people in my office but now that i'm knowing them (even if its a Hi and Bye) it makes me feel good and one such activity i want to engage in is to know people (though my friends keep telling me you have a 'short-coming' in doing that) and i believe the place is getting better (though most of the time i'm engaged in my work). I happen to be the youngest (in terms of work experience and age too i guess!) in the circle and it has been an ardous task to put across myself none the less its happening now.

It's beyond a doubt in my mind that i'm in the company of talented and pro-active people. People who are flexible in thoughts and have ideas to put forth. As of now i'm going thro' a process, a process of knowing people whom i wanted to know the day i've been there. The workspace at the end will be fun filled as and when i know people (and people who could make it fun filled!..hope u get what i said)

part 2 to be continued...........

After a long time!

Yup..coming back to blog after a long time. Its been a mix of happening and not-so-happening month but none the less its been good. I donno know what to add. Hey for all u people ..my flickr photos share site is available.
visit: http://www.flickr.com/photos/shishir_nc/. I plan to add more photos (both past and present).

Had a good saturday. The reason being music. I dont own an iPOD(ohh..how proud i would be) but whenever i plan for one something abruptly prevents me from buying one. Anyway, so have to end up with my RADIO in my phone. It was 'classic rock' all night long and man oh man..didn't they play my fav numbers. Starting from floyd ('another brick in the wall' and 'wish you were here'), police ('every breath you take'), scorpions ('winds of change'), rainbow ('temple of the king'), metallica (the obvious song...nothing else matters), the doors, bryan adams, led zep and many more. The fact that i heard them after a very long time made it so special to me...i wish i had my music collection with me ...listening to vertical horizon, whitesnake, pink floyd,coldplay...urgg it was such a desperation for me to have my collection back..

None the less i should have my iPOD one day and he he he what an envy should it be...aptly put "Neighbour's 'ENVY,
owners' PRIDE!"

Wow! what a Day

Being on bench and expecting project calls..well that perhaps has become a routine these days for most of us (and my friends) in the office. I got one yesterday and things were too messed up for me being caught up with another work. The interview was fine with questions commonly asked "tell me about yourself" and a little (a little i mean) of what i've been trained on. The results are expected sometime sooner. Hope to make it!

The office is abuzz (at least the cabin) with one of my colleagues being selected for a happening technology! The very best to him from my side.

Some of 'em gave a test in the morning and are expecting results tmrw. Wow! lot of tests happening..eeks.

Well, one of my friends wants me to add his sad moments in the office. Being mapped and not getting calls..others getting calls..he awaiting.. I think thats the shortest possible simplistic way of writing his "office happening".

The day, however, is nothing better than the one described in the post below. Great! the reader would say. Nothing more to add nothing to delete!

Good day.

My First Blog!

Hello World!

The two words that a newbie to programming language(any) learns to print to the console and i just thought perhaps that could be the best way to start off the first blog to the world! However,i'm not proficient in writing but with tide of time i shall improve and make my blogs interesting.

My first blogggg....what to say..what to write! its just another day after all. Spend time in the cubicle, talkin to people, music around (some of the boring songs are on air). i miss my music very much. i kill time by singing some of my all time fav songs and to others relief (guess u got the sense of my singing talent) some of 'em are played on air at night.

Well not much to say and out of time..need to get out of the cabin and head back home.

Have a great time ahead.
